The Tragedy of Macbeth 2021
what can be said of the scottish play that hasn’t already been said? visually this felt cold, empty, and un-lived in—this is how the story of macbeth has always felt to me. somehow the characters felt un-lived in, too. the relationships seemed empty and that somehow worked. the entire film felt so isolating to watch—aside from bertie carvel’s chilling soliloquy that invited the audience, for one moment, into the word of the play. i personally loved that this adaptation explored the classic themes of power, guilt, gender, reality, etc, through individualism.
