Incredible cinematography.
Did it say anything new? Not really.
Also, this Nosferatu had cowboy energy. It was throwing me off.
We get it, Alex Garland hates humanity.
I wish I could give this film more stars. From a far, it’s carefully crafted and bold. I had a horrible gut feeling watching this film unfold. It made me hyperaware of the ridiculousness of being at the cinema while actual wars unfold. I’m here being ~entertained~? I thought it could be all be worth it when some kind of point or statement was expressed, but Garland avoided any real viewpoints entirely.
Fantasy, grief, and the concept of time. I loved the themes and symbolism and how the film refuses to give us any singular meaning. Beautiful to look at, as always. I do wish the pacing was a bit more intentional.
