When I originally watched Ex Machina in theatres back in 2015, I remember walking out elated; its images had left a dreamlike impression on me. My local cinema showing the film for its 10th anniversary offered an opportunity to relive my first experience watching it, which I was hesitant undertake. Eggers' Nosferatu proved to be a rather inconsistent experience for me, not quite unlike The Northman (2022). Interestingly enough, I believe it's Eggers' idiosyncrasies shining through that are the strongest and weakest elements in the film.
