Plenty of points where this indulges in the aestheticizing of trauma it’s criticizing, but still very charming and really kinda cathartic in its blunter edges - it’s also under ninety minutes :)

I don’t know. Paul Bettany’s performance is incredibly strong, and there are some affecting emotional beats buried in here. Frank’s relationship with Wally is a little clichéd, but works too. The movie is incredibly trope reliant, and provides a half-assed “changing hearts and minds” message at the end. Frank’s acceptance of his family does not really feel earned, especially with their condescending “I’ll still support you even if you choose this lifestyle” approach to him coming out.
