  Not usually a fan of religious horror for several reasons, but Heretic stands out from the numerous films in that particular genre. Seeing affable Hugh Grant go from a sweet well-mannered host to a very very fucked individual matches perfectly with the films descent into chaos.   Top. Fucking. Tier!!!! They promised brutality and we got it in droves. Also, the subverted so many expectations and reinvigorated the franchise on a whole new level. This is the best since Scream 2 and no this isn’t me talking shit but it is (for me) the best since Scream 2.

  A different pace, a different execution, a proper ending. While wonky in some areas, Halloween Ends works (for ME) by not delivering a familiar formula for a 40+ year franchise. We ask for some variety in our beloved horror franchises, but when we get it, we don’t know how to process what’s before us at the time. That doesn’t mean changing formula works every time, but instead sometimes what we want isn’t necessarily what we need.
