Devil Times Five 1974
One of those true ‘70s grindhouse movies that seems to have just kind of seeped out of the muddy ground. Bleak, ugly, and mean, but undeniably (and intentionally) funny and featuring several dynamic performances (especially the killer kids) and some potent imagery.
Super boring for long stretches but it makes up for it in the ultraviolent home stretch.

The Electric State 2025
Once I got over the fact that this film adaptation of The Electric State is a completely different experience than Simon Stålenhag’s brilliant and haunting graphic novel, I could enjoy it as a silly action adventure with the occasional striking visual.
Back to the graphic novel for a moment: I can’t recommend it highly enough. I can’t remember how I first encountered Stålenhag’s work (my chosen poster for the film is one of his) but the juxtapositions of recognizable modern living…
