Red One 2024
It’s like when you get a gift from your weird aunt expecting to hate it and instead are actually delighted.
That’s to say, this isn’t nearly as bad as so soooo many made it out to be. It’s not GOOD per se, but I found myself having a ton of fun watching with the family on the couch.
It also does the whole “here’s a ridiculous amount of North Pole lore for some reason” a bit better than others the have tried.
So, humbug to the haters.

Ant-Man and the Wasp 2018
There’s always a high right after a Marvel movie. You’ve just been supremely entertained, laughed and awed in just about equal measure, and once again been blown away by how they manage to keep pulling these movies off so well. Ant-Man 2 does all that in spades. And that’s about it. Which, really, is great.
It’s content with itself, and so are you. I really enjoyed it, even if it’s not exactly groundbreaking.
Hot take: if the DCEU made this movie it’d be the best movie they made by miles. It sits at a comfy 11 on my Marvel list.

I saw a writer from The Office explain that the show’s philosophy for writing was like a “McDLT” the old 80s McDonald’s gimmick of separating the hot and cold parts of the burger in a package. Google it.
Anyway. The point was, you didn’t smash the comedy into the drama scenes and vice versa. You let them be their own things to serve the greater whole. Or something.
