Takeshi Kitano stars in, directs and edits this masterpiece film which also features many of his own paintings. I cannot think of many films that embody the auteur mentality quite as well as Fireworks (Hana-Bi). The film offers a really unique blend of crime drama, brutal action, romance, gangster, comedy and melodrama tropes which come together seamlessly.
