I love a rom com and went in excited for this one! This movie promised to tell several cute (if corny) stories: unlikely friendship between nerd and jock, first love, and a queer awakening to name a few. It fumbled the execution so hard. The script read like a 2014 tumblr blog and so many scenes dragged minutes longer than they needed to. It was like a two hour Taylor Swift music video.

The quality acting and beautiful aesthetic of this movie could not make up for the lack of compelling relationships between its main characters. In order for a dramatic betrayal to work, the audience has to be invested in the existing relationship. Despite Florence Pugh’s talent and Harry Styles’s passable performance, I just didn’t care.
