"What kind of American are you?"

Jesse Plemons is so good in Civil War. It's a very small role (literally one scene) that plays squarely to his incredibly menacing strengths, allowing him to command the screen and almost walk away with the entire film. He also gets the best and most recognisable line with the whole performance enhanced because of the fact that he was a late addition. Stephen McKinley Henderson also stands out by doing a great job of…

    The Hunt for Red October

    ★★★★½

The Hunt for Red October is a fantastic political thriller that comfortably remains the best Jack Ryan film. It gradually reveals the character’s true motivations for maximum effect with plenty of suspenseful submarine action interspersed throughout. It's a very interesting choice for the first ever big screen Jack Ryan adaptation since he essentially shares leading man status with Sean Connery's Russian submarine captain and it really works.

This is possibly the most open and obvious a Mission film has been with…

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

    ★★★

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is a frustratingly risk free and overly long greatest hits collection that brings Indy back to essentially repeat the same arc as Crystal Skull in a less satisfying fashion whilst doubling down on its biggest flaw (excessive CG action) but still remains an enjoyable adventure that at least takes one big creative swing that really works in its final moments.

Harrison Ford remains an undeniable movie star of rare talent and even though…
