Vietnam movies are a mixed bag, but I've found that it's the overlooked ones that hit the hardest.
The first 3/4 of this movie is a great example of war exposition, and they avoid so many cliches that the mainstays of Vietnam war films are guilty of.
The final quarter depicts some incredibly gritty encounters, and it has feeling, arguably more so than Cowboy's famous death scene in Full Metal Jacket. Hell, one moment feels like a scene straight out of Saving Private Ryan.
