Tragic loss to the history of cinema and Ozu’s oevrue. Not because it’s a perfect snippet but because it’s a really incredible way of watching a filmmaker grow and develop. There are fragments of his most famous works here and that’s fucking cool.

The Banshees of Lower Manhattan
Elaine May is a genius. Her portrayal of male friendship is gutting and shows the confusion and toxicity that most men cannot fess up to. Nicky finally admitting that he does shitty things for, ‘attention,’ is so real and heartbreaking, it is probabaly the main thesis of the entire film. But also like hey fuck you dude you and your buddies are fucking creeps. Those moments in the apartment are just haunting scenes.

I finally watched it!
All the cliches about this are true. It’s a brilliant masterpiece that demands so much from you as a viewer but it gives you so much in return. This sounds dumb but it’s like My Dinner with Andre meets La Jetee. Don’t ask me why but it makes sense.

Over the top in all the fun ways. A color by numbers with interesting colors and images it’s filling in. Looked pretty great.
This history of tech is sort of repetitive especially after watching a show like Silicon Valley but it’s still very interesting. Being like 14 at the time climax of the films timeline is great because I totally remember the downfall of the phone and the skyrocket of the iPhone. That volatility was nuts and that story was cool to see.
