Stephen Graham really likes the long one-take. I think it worked better in Boiling Point, and I’m not sure why it was needed here, but the first and third episodes here were the most enjoyable. At its best, this series was an impressive technical feat with some great performances. At its worst, it was thematically unsubtle, heavy-handed, corny, and even cringey at times. Parts of it reminded me of Night Of, which had all of the best of Adolescence and none of the worst.
It’s a story that leaves you in dumb, angry silence by the time the credits role. You’re left trying only to decide what moment was most infuriating.

I came into this movie about 15 minutes in and it hooked me immediately. Didn’t know what it was but I had a feeling it was Mike Leigh, and I was right! Man, Tim Roth is incredible in this one. Leigh has a way of getting phenomenal performances out of his actors. He can also just prop a camera up in front of a washing machine or a hallway for a long take and they’re two of the coolest scenes in the movie.
