This is film right here, I feel this is a full representation of this art form when utilized to its fullest potential.

It’s incredible a film made 60 years ago looks this good, it looks like it could’ve been made today in 2023. The lighting, composition, symbolism, narrative, everything, it’s just so freaking good.

The themes of family, love, revenge, and desperation played perfectly into this unfolding plot that unravels the facade of the ancient Japanese Samurai code and the corruption that takes place as part of it. There’s so much here to unravel and I’m sure it just gets better on repeat watches

I would have liked to see something more visually. For better or for worse it all feels very safe. The camera is a lens into the fictitious world and should compliment the mise-en-scene and the narrative. I feel like something more than just medium shots on sticks would really elevate this.

This seems like a really negative review but it’s just because it’s easy to notice the things that could be improved. I really enjoyed this, the humor was great and I was invested in the story and the characters.

Classic Hollywood feel with this one. I really enjoyed that style. I just have to comment on how bad the sound mix was. Everything was deathly quiet, and then random sounds or scenes where it was really loud. I was constantly adjusting the sound level when watching, and that really annoyed me. I noticed some continuity issues, and some things could have been fleshed out a bit more for me, specifically to do with the characters. But other than that the pacing was excellent, the 2.5 hours flew by for me. I enjoyed it, was a good evening watch.
