  The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 2012

  This film did what it set out to do; create Hobbit fans. That being said, I won't nit-pick it to death. I WILL say that the insertion of modern vernacular was grossly jarring and the first 15 minutes didn't need to be there besides to maybe fulfill some contract with Elijah Wood? But, I'll temper my nerd rage and say it was accurate, thorough, and a fun time at the movies.

  That Thing You Do! 1996

  If someone in a hardcore punk band in 2003 can look at this PG-rated movie about a 60's pop one-hit-wonder band and say "Yes! That's exactly what it's like to play in a band" that's a pretty good testament to the breadth of this film. It's like working in a cubicle and then seeing Office Space, it's more sad and more funny and just carries more weight because it speaks directly to you. That's how this movie is for any and all active musicians.
