Turn Every Page - The Adventures of Robert Caro and Robert Gottlieb

Your enjoyment of this is really going to depend on your interest in the subject of Robert Caro (and to a lesser extent, his editor). As someone who’s a fan of Caro (but will probably never actually get around to reading any of his work), this was catnip.

But if it’s easier to sell you on it, what this documentary is really about more so than any of the individual books they wrote together per se, is a friendship over…

It sort of reminded me of Starship Troopers, except if you sucked most of the fun and clever social satire right out of it.

I loved this one. Loved. This. Film. Really, really quite lovely stuff. Kelly Reichardt is one of the very best American filmmakers working today, and this now all but solidifies that title.

Like almost all of her work, this is going to take some time to marinate for me, and I’m sure I’ll have a more nuanced appreciation on second visiting

Not a movie about art itself and—surprisingly, really—not even so much a movie about the process of creating art…

There should be a second option on Letterboxd; one that says "I've watched this film before, but it's been so long that I basically forgot everything about it, and also definitely forgot how good it is." I would check that little box for The Hudsucker Proxy.

Just zany, silly fun here. I think the Coens advice to their actors must have been "everyone turn up their performance to 11, except for you Jennifer Jason Leigh—you turn it up to 12."…
