Joaquin Phoenix was absolutely phenomenal. He was fucking mental, not Heath Ledger mental, but fucking mental. Put the whole movie on his back, cos apart from him, it was pretty beige. Actually Robert De Niro was ok.
There’s something about really dark, gloomy films like this that I really love. And I have to disagree with many of the reviews that say they were utterly bored until the final, talk show scene. Phoenix just kept me enthralled in the unfolding of the story.
My favourite character though was the British little person.
