I’ve seen this beaut about 20 times in my life. I know it front to back. However the greatest pleasure about this hidden gem is showing it to someone who has never even heard of it. Such well written script and a beautiful looking film. Paul’s still got it. Richard Gere is fantastic, but Jacob Elordi is a revelation. Schrader is playing with memory, one’s own mythology and the fantasies we create around our own memories. Very introspective, really enjoyed it.
Bonkers. Absolutely bonkers. A film that drives you to a cliff, telling a disturbing tale full of self hatred that is actually really chilling. The SOUND DESIGN, the cinematography, the production design all of it is unsettling. Then it gleefully throws you off that cliff and laughs at you. Very exciting filmmaking.
