I’d been led to believe these sequels were worthless pieces of crap so never watched this until now. And I’m pleasantly surprised at how much fun I had with this. It has a decent blend of action, horror and comedy. Laughed a lot throughout at this criminal ensemble led by Robert Patrick. By no means perfect but I appreciated this adaptation for bringing to life a lot of the qualities from the book absent in Kubrick’s film (which is still a stupendous horror film). Jack actually care’s about his family. We can understand how important this caretaker job is to the family and why they simply cannot leave as it’s their last chance.

Ken says “Let them fight” and I say “lets watch them fight, motherfucker!” It constantly shows us a glimpse of Big G and then poof it cuts away. Giving me severe kaiju blue balls. I understand they were going for Jaws in how late Bruce the shark appears in that film. But after a certain point it bordered on the silly over how they try to obfuscate Godzilla.
