I was a lil disapointed by this one and I'm really sad about it!! The first half is really excellent and I was really locked into the world and tone it was setting. I thought the characters were extremely likeable and the commentary was fantastic. But the back half was just really strange? (Not in a good way). With a modest budget of 750k, and shot in the middle of a literal warzone, this first-time director accomplished more than some Hollywood directors are capable of doing throughout their whole careers. The uniquely Slavic humour, the emotional depth that comes through every shot, the authenticity that you feel from the characters is all astounding. I really hope this one gains some traction at TIFF because this is a story I think more people need to see in the age of internet loneliness and isolation

what a freaky deaky movie. special effects aside, the care with which they handle the transformation was so good. the implications of it all, the abortion nightmare, the way brundle's philosophy on his transformation changes throughout, just outstanding. i would've rated this a lot higher but the first 30 min are pretty awful. jeff golblum as weird fly monster 10/10, but jeff golblum as quirky scientist did nothing for me in this one, and the characters acted so goofy
