In my opinion this film still holds up. I think the biggest takeaway for me is that, like Schindler’s List, this film feels very much like a documentary. Instead of showing the past though it not only shows a possible future but a window into it.

There’s an existential quote in this that is along the lines of journalism can’t change what’s going to happen, it doesn’t matter how many warnings you give. So this film is not a warning it is a window into the future.

Absolutely loved this one, so much to unpack and my first time seeing a film with an intermission in it. Got to see it in 70 mm with my dad as a break from my film school transfer applications and could not have picked something better to do. I will say the epilogue was the only thing I really disliked, I feel that it was unneeded and would have been better without. Overall loved it and definitely watching it again, acting was fantastic!

Terrence Malick somehow made war look beautiful. Great story and amazing characters and acting. I like how this didn’t depict or glorify war crimes and it really felt like an up close immersive film experience.

I think this is the best introduction to Malick if you have never seen one of his films, it’s oddly an easy watch compared to his other films!

Also, I watched this thinking that George Clooney would be in more of it haha.
