Come and See 1985
Stunning in its depictions of devastation and hope. The scene of Flyora and Glasha leaving his village will stick with me FOREVER. Reminded me so much of Eisenstein’s Battleship Potemkin. The cuts to Flyora’s infamous traumatized looks are very much (in my opinion I guess) an homage to Soviet silent films. I think the connection to that era of Soviet film makes it a little difficult for me to see this as an antiwar film as as lot of (American?) critics seem to think. Can patriotic films be antiwar? Idk where I’m going with this. Fantastic film regardless!
