It's very, very good. Really upsetting at times. It gets almost a Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibe where you truly don't want to see what happens. There is true terror in the air. And it has ethereal moments as well, and little poetic asides and a great ending. Did I mention the dread? It could have gone full Saw or worse at any moment. And the perspective shifts were more subtle and complex than what I’d heard about. A powerful and thoughtful film.
I really try to keep my star rankings in context...I mean, an "average" movie would be 2.5 stars, right? Seeing this today on the big screen will help me keep some perspective. This is 5. As good as movies get. I hope to grapple with why and edit this to be worth reading, right now I can only report.
I'm not an adequate film reviewer, I tend to just spit out whatever superlative seems apt; neither analysis or writing are my strong suits. But I think this movie is better and more important than the 3.8 average rating it's currently getting.
