Scene: PFS film center for best picture weekend

Thoughts: while I cannot deny how good adrien brody and guy pearce are, this is a movie about brady corbet’s narcissism. Yuck

  • Nosferatu

    Nosferatu

    ★★½

Scene: late night dolby cinema…only time available was 10pm because I am sure disney contractually obligated amc to show mufasa 47 times during daylight hours

Thoughts: great sets, costumes, music, etc. all the technical stuff and attention to detail was great. Eggers must’ve staged a mean dollhouse growing up. I found the movie to be lacking something though. It felt like one endless dream sequence, and hoult’s character was such a lemming it was ridiculous

Choice quote: “I have seen things in this world that would make Isaac Newton crawl back into his mother's womb!” is a banger. Needed more of that

Scene: Bryn Mawr Film Institute after lunch at The Grog with my mom. Slightly overcooked but solid smash burger

Thoughts: complete disappointment. Go read the book, which is fantastic. I don’t care about the constraints of a movie, it is absurd to present this story as a bunch of kids having never rowed before training in six months to qualify for the Olympics. And turning it into a Hollywood romance on top of that? Goodness. Some nice shots of rowing, though, which I always appreciate
