A genre-bending film that is both a refutation and an ode to the “biopic” itself. The focus on Malcolm X’s intellectual development was an ingenious way to frame the film’s arc. Denzel is brilliant, capturing the diction, mannerisms, and essence of Malcolm X with incredible talent.
Only issue is the runtime and pacing - I had to split this over three viewings. But it’s the price to pay for such a comprehensive and rewarding film.
Did not remember that the “inside you are two wolves” meme in this movie.
It’s not a great sign when a film introduces a plot point that you dread its recurrence and hope the filmmakers forget about it.

Wow, that was terrible. I contemplated not even reviewing this, but it felt important as I was incredibly hyped for this movie and came out utterly disappointed. The direction, acting, and storytelling were all atrocious and by well before the halfway point I couldn’t wait for it to be over.
