  The Monkey 2025

  Stephen King’s short story The Monkey is a scarier read than the script for Osgood Perkins’ movie. HOWEVER. The kills are hilarious, and the comedy is dark and dry.

  I highly recommend this not great storyline for its excellent storytelling. Is that even possible? I think in this, it it.

  Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song 1971

  ★★★ Watched 20 Feb 2025

  Racist cops in a racist system hunt down an innocent black man. Fifty years after Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song was made, it's still relevant. It's a good story; I'm glad it was made.

  But, as is always the case when I decide to watch a movie, there are dead fucking animals in it, and they're real ones. And considering how Melvin Van Peebles opens the film (with his own son Mario in the role,) I'm not sure I can say I'm glad I watched this one.

  Am I the only person who watched Five Nights at Freddy's but has no knowledge of the video game? All I could think of while watching it was, "This is how Willy's Wonderland would have played out if they'd hired Peeta Mellark instead of Nicolas Cage and then found the cash to hire Matthew Lillard as a day player."
