Wicked 2024
Wicked is, perhaps unsurprisingly, a pretty damn good movie musical. Granted, it has really strong source material to work with, but the cast is really putting in the work here. (Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have really earned those Oscar nominations!) I’m still not entirely convinced splitting this into two movies was the best move - the running time for Part I as about as long as the entire musical as it is - but it at least feels like the extra time was put to good use, so I’m not complaining too much.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Really had a blast watching this to get fully caught up before the new Scream comes out this week. I know that the meta-ness of this one turns off some people, but it made the movie a riot. As for the final act… well, let’s just say the killers being fuelled by that level of pettiness is exactly what I would expect from people who get way too obsessed with a franchise being just the way they want it.
Overall, I’d say this ties with Scream 2 for second place in the series (maybe even slightly ahead of it?).

… yeah, I understand why there’s been a bunch of comparisons between this and Crash now. I don’t think Emilia Perez is terrible, but it’s not good either. I think the movie deserves credit for actually having the lead role played by an actual trans woman, but it feels like a problem when your musical doesn’t have very good music?
