I was one class short of a film minor in college, so I know what I’m talking about.

Starts out as a immersive vibes movie, putting you right in the depths of 1970's UK dancehall culture which, as far as I know, is criminally underrepresented on film. Around the halfway point, it becomes something more raw and hard-edged. The whole thing works really well.

Great music, great direction, and very cool clothes. Loved this.

Always felt a little intimidated by this one, though I’m now realizing was because I erroneously thought the seaside chess sequence lasted the entire movie. I actually found this pretty watchable, despite the fact that it basically attempts to address the entirety of the human experience in 90 minutes. Obviously so artfully shot; must’ve been wild to see this in the 60’s.

I think it’s super cool that Bergman decided to cast some hot babes in his movie about the Black Death in the Middle Ages!

Once you realize that Ann Savage’s Vera is basically April Ludgate’s Janet Snakehole, this movie becomes an incredible cinematic experience.

I wanted this to be more of a critique of capitalism; all the heroes made their fortunes off the backs of sweatshop labor after all. But I also unintentionally wore Nikes to see this, so I’m not the best person to make that argument.

With that out of the way, this was a top-tier cast skating effortlessly on a tight script. Affleck’s direction is tonally perfect, towing the line between the sensory assault of 80’s consumerism and the quiet internal pressure of the floundering Nike basketball division.

Soundtrack of the year too- every five minutes there was a killer needle drop.
