    Salem's Lot

    ★★★½

To preface this review, Salem’s Lot is my favorite Stephen King novel. It’s also one of my favorite books period. So going into the new adaptation of the source material I tried to stay away from what I thought it should be. I was just hoping for a decent adaptation and a fun vampire flick. In that, this film succeeds. It has enough of the source material to make it recognizable, while also having a ton of atmosphere and 70s-80’s…

When a film lifts its review embargo AFTER it has already starting screenings, that’s a clear sign of no confidence. With that being said, and even after I did see the eventual reviews… I wanted to give this a shot. I love the original. I wasn’t one of the fans who automatically had knives out for this film because they dared approach it. So I bought my ticket. Once in a while things really are as bad as they seem.…

    Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

    ★★★★★

George Miller has done it again. Furiosa is a thrill ride from the opening minutes all the way to the conclusion, in the most grand fashion. Anya Taylor Joy brought her A game. She is very much worthy of the role made famous by Charlize Theron. It was also great to see Chris Hemsworth stepping up his game in this one, he is a fantastic scene-chewing villain. All of the vibe and frenetic energy of Fury Road was here in…

    Dune: Part Two

    ★★★★½

Early in the year, Dune Part 2 will be hard to beat for my number 1 film of 2024. Coming from someone who liked but ultimately didn’t love the first installment, I think this is high praise. This is exactly what I hoped for. A film with amazing action, great performances, and just the right amount of drama that builds from the setup from the first film. Chalamet continues to impress as a leading man, and Austin Butler is chilling in a refreshing take on villainy. This is vast and grand on a Lord of the Rings level, and that’s fantastic in my book.
