  I think it’s genuinely difficult for people to comprehend the beauty of how flannery writes about her faith. Her stories are taught in high school classrooms that focus more on racial relationships than the concept of grace - of course forgiveness will be easy to miss in that environment.   Currently rewatching and makes me appreciate seeing this in theaters last year all over again. There are things I missed the first time around, and can say this time it is a masterpiece.   there was a point after the new years firework scene where I wished it would’ve ended there, but it kept going and I thought it was a typical move to make it meandering, very reflective of actual 70s films (Alice’s restaurant etc…) the “sweetheart” scene with the dad and hand holding scene with Mary alone were worth seeing it
