Part of the Daiei Gothic boxset from Radiance. This is a ghost folk horror based on a traditional Japanese story that’s heavily influenced the genre over the years. It’s yet another brilliant Yamamoto film, he has a great way of instilling a sense of community and social commentary, whilst also focussing on a fantastical narrative. Also, it’s worth mention how fantastic the wire work and special FX are, the sword fight scene with the ghosts was incredible.

This was my first exposure to Tati and my god what a beautiful masterpiece! I was entirely transfixed for the 135 mins running time. Whilst the cinematography was mesmerising, it was the diegetic sound and how it was structured within the very core of every beat of satirical comic perfection that was truly mind blowing. I now must consume everything Tati!

Yet another Lenzi, early Giallo graces my screen. I’m determined to get through my Lenzi backlog!

Lenzi crafts an atmosphere that feels both opulent and oppressive, echoing the claustrophobic suspense seen in Clouzot’s Les Diaboliques, which…

Always been interested in photography and photo journalism. Whilst I knew who Lee Miller was, I didn’t know her background. This feels very much a labour of love for Winslet and she is superb in the role. It’s a fascinating story that’s incredibly important, especially given the rise of populism. That being said, as a feature film it felt a little flat. I came away feeling like it was a tv movie telling an important story with good actors…which is exactly what it was.
