Ugh, the script. Just way too much talking throughout, which killed the magic that this movie DOES have. The story idea is strong and the production sparkles. There’s just not enough spaciousness or ambiguousness between the characters to leave you to wondering or yearning for something. Pamela Anderson played Shelly so well despite this - her nervous fragility and big smile broke my heart.

An Unmarried Woman 1978
Really wrestling with whether I loved or hated this movie. I will say that I found all female friend hangs throughout very touching and delightful.

Tender, haunting, immersive. Will be thinking about this for a long time.

Soundtrack to a Coup d'Etat 2024
Very intense (at times rollicking?) crash course on the intersection between jazz, civil rights, and the Congolese struggle for independence from Belgium circa 1959/60, told entirely in archival footage and cited text.
