I loved this movie. It was both graceful and sharp, and made me feel the character’s gutting experiences through such subtle choices (the mom pausing Bupe’s video felt like a gut punch).
The world she built is familiar: the way The Aunties are protectors of status quo first, and protectors of their daughters second. I cried when they came into the kitchen to acknowledge this and cried at the hollowness of their acknowledgement. Who are we obligated to protect?
