Ford's adaptation of the novel "How Green Was My Valley" somehow managed to beat out such powerhouse films like Citizen Kane and The Maltese Falcon to take home the Oscar in 1941. But was it worthy of such praise? It's perhaps too sentimental for its own good, and many plot threads are left to the wind (did anything ever come of the coal miners desire for a union? Will Angharad get a divorce from her loveless marriage for the preacher?…
