Pulpy and splendid. Fauvist in its characterisations but that's for the best, I think: tropey and clear, with arcs that are inevitable from the off and so ticks thru to a satisfying conclusion like a resolving chord. The performances are good, but better than that, they're right for the job. Not perfect—because of the tropey rigour—but as good a film as it could be, which is surely enough.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert 1994
Not watched since years before I came out and now I'm wondering what role if any it played in me having a lot of weird stuff to unlearn about my own reactions to being deadnamed
Broadly interesting and good tho and a good reminder never to believe you've reached the end of history, no matter how better than the sticks you are... there is always room to grow girlsTranslated from by

Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical 2022
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
What I thought this movie was, not having seen the other one or read the book: a puckish telekinetic uses her powers to explode a stuffed shirt who's famed at shotput or something.
What this movie actually is: a devastatingly painful allegory for my childhood as a closeted trans girl, complete with compulsively callous misgenderings, bullying from authority figures, fantasies of liberty and found families at the end of it all, and sport lessons as the vectors for pushing the abuse envelope.
Been in floods since she first got called "son" in minute 5.
