Three Times Before 1934
Made as a sound film but has two silent versions:
1) Like most silent films there’s intertitles linking scenes, driving forward the narrative,
2) The dialogue instead is presented as subtitles
This rating is for version 2 - subtitles.The thread of jealousy a lot more to the fore in this version. Both have their pluses and minuses.

Winner of the first ever Audience Award at Cannes in 2024 where it played in the Director’s Fortnight section.
The MIFF blurb says “its still frames and sight gags owe just as much to the witty absurdities of Jacques Tati, Roy Andersson and Wes Anderson.” Ummmm it tries hard but doesn’t get there. I can assure you the meticulous set up of Roy Andersson’s work is not replicated here.
