    Post viewing brain gush:

    Eggers' movies tell richly allegorical but narratively simple folkloric tales

    These work so well in The Witch and The Lighthouse because these stories unfold in confines, claustrophobic atmosphere and arresting performances conjuring a constant build that comes to an inescapable crescendo.

    This in essence is the same approach in both The Northman and Nosferatu yet this doesn't seem to scale up. Greater scope and more players in these tales seem to dilute what makes them so…

    I loved this for many of reasons I love Fincher's Zodiac

    An unsolved crime seen through the increasingly skewed lens of the detectives who become obsessed with solving it, losing themselves and sight of the case along the way

    As much as it grips you with tense interactions, seemingly revelatory clues, and harrowing glimpses of the crimes themselves it too ambles, leads you astray, and burdens you with the unknown
