I really don’t know how to feel. I almost feel angry at how gritty she is portrayed, but then I have to remind myself that actually that is a quite true perception. Her life was full of grit, but also she herself was full of beauty and potential, and actually I think this documentary does do a good job of balancing that.

I do however find it quite ironic that it tells the terrible tale of what paparazzi invasion can do, but this documentary wouldn’t be able to have half the footage it had without it. I don’t know.

This was such a fascinating documentary. I think the decisions of composition, mixed with it’s editing style, makes it very visually enjoyable. The documenting itself, the many different aspects of background presented is what really builds it all together. Even the ending sequence before the final spelling, is crafted so well. I very much enjoyed it

(Also I think the one shot of the woman talking while her dog is licking her leg, acting like nothing is happening, is genuinely the best thing I’ve ever seen)

The complexity of how I feel however, I think comes from its place as a comedy. Although I did enjoy ‘Tootsie’, there was no time when I thought, this is funny, except from the brief Andy Warhol cameo. Similar to ‘some like it hot’, it’s comedic value…

In pure honesty, I liked the quick panning transitions. And except from Osgoods pure acceptance of situation at the end, I don’t think there was much else I could enjoy. As a transgender woman, seeing a contributor to the oppression you face is very difficult. ‘Some like it hot’, I assume, had no intention of effecting or highlighting the transgender community, and yet the real-life effects of such storylines; men dressing up as women to disguise, and them same perverted…
