    About Time

    ★★★★★

Eventually, everyone watches a film that hits them so hard that they want to tell the whole world to go watch it and that is what I’m doing here with the 2013 film, About Time. I watched this for the first time in the early morning just before work and found it was the perfect film to start off the day. After watching, I left the house and I was smiling, in a good mood, and thought of times with…

When first watching The Tree of Life back in 2011, it was after a friend of mine vented how bad it was. He said it was so awful that I just had to watch it. So I did, and he was quite surprised to find that I did not agree as I found myself in awe of the visuals and sound, its poetic story of how little we are in the grand scheme of things, and loved the dichotomy of…

    Conclave

    ★★★★

Conclave is an engaging well written mystery thriller set within the Vatican where replacement of the recently deceased Pope unveils secrets and conspiracies within.

The performances are fantastic. Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci are incredible together and are followed by Isabella Rosalina who leaves quite an impact in her limited time.

The film also benefits from Volker Bertelmann's score containing remarkably dramatic strings that punched at just the right moments and Stéphane Fontaine's outstanding cinematography.

The ending can be a controversial one but regardless of that, Conclave is a fantastic time.

  • Paddington in Peru

    Paddington in Peru

    ★★★

Paddington in Peru is good, but without Paul King’s creative touch and Sally Hawkins charm, the film could not reach the same level of greatness as the prior two films. Olivia Coleman is a lot of fun though, and spending some time with Paddington and the Browns still makes for an enjoyable time in the theater.

    Assault on Precinct 13

    ★★★★

This low budget 70’s film from the legendary John Carpenter is a bit choppy at first but when the station becomes under attack it’s loads of intense fun. I got some Night of the Living Dead vibes when the antagonists attacked the precinct which was awesome and I surprisingly found a couple of the characters enjoyable and began pulling for some I didn’t expect to. If you enjoy John Carpenters work and haven’t check this out yet I think you would find a lot to like in Assault on Precinct 13.

    Revenge

    ★★★★

When this first came out I had no intention of seeing it due to its premise but after good word of mouth I went in and was so relieved to find Revenge was much better than expected and I was in awe of its visuals and sound. Coralie Fargeat had one hell of a directorial debut!  Matilda Lutz is fantastic as the vengeful Jen and I've got to give props to Vincent Colombe as well, especially his expressions during a foot scene. I squirm and laugh every time.

Watched this again today and it is definitely a favorite of 2018. Revenge is bloody fantastic!
