Cure is a perfect companion piece to Audition. Both somewhat supernatural serial killer films set in turn of the millennia urban Japan. And just as I experienced with Audition, a rewatch could help me to unpack Cure to the point where I would consider it a 5 star film too.

wow. amazing to see Anatoliy Solonitsyn again, and even more so as a scarily evil antagonist. and amazing to finally have a visual example of Belarus and its snowy woods where my Grandfather was born, raised, and fought at exactly the same time as the films setting. regardless of these personal implications, this is an undeniably brilliant film that can best be described as powerful.
also RIP to Larisa Shepitko, yet another talented Soviet director taken way before they had finished giving.
