  So good. The maximalist, psychedelic, and playful animation style makes this an easy rec to fans of stuff like Night is Short Walk On Girl, and the wry, surreal humor is ahead of its time. Constantly delighted by how it draws faces and bodies, and every mundane action from sitting on a couch to looking at a phone is presented so expressively. Killer music, too. Grinning or laughing for all 80 minutes.

  I’m not exaggerating when I say that there might not be a single other piece of visual media that’s more important to me than Aria. I’ve spent many evenings over the past couple of months curled up on the couch, opening myself up to Aria’s bloodcurdlingly sentimental schmaltz, and letting the tears of joy flow freely. It doesn’t explore deep concepts, it doesn’t try to dazzle with clever plotting, it just makes me happy.
