A delightfully weird and fun analogy. It ends pretty abruptly and it never really felt like it knew what it was doing in terms of character development. But the artwork is so pretty and I see its influence on sci-fi (Scavengers Reign in particular comes to mind).

Alexander Nevsky 1938
This certainly feels like a film Joseph Stalin had to approve every frame of.
But it’s also about as good of a movie as you could make under those constraints. The way that the German villains were portrayed (and all the Nazi imagery) was super fascinating and a window into USSR/German relations at the time of the film.

This one didn’t quite live up to the hype. Maybe it’s because these films about class struggles aren’t really my thing. It’s a hot take, but they’re hard to do well. They’re so obvious and easy… Many of them are smug, pointed films directed by some millionaire that just scream the word “society” at you for 90+ minutes. Parasite certainly isn’t the worst offender, but it still feels easy. Nobody but rich assholes like rich assholes, so it’s very easy…
