The Memory of Justice 1976
The most fascinating parts are the interviews with Speer who fully believes in his innocence and is actually quite convincing. A highly poetic and reflexive documentary, Ophuls inserts his own voice throughout the film, as the interlocutor with a series of historical actors, but never styles himself as omniscient narrator. In a very interesting interlude in his own home, he questions his family about their relationship to history, and they in turn question his motivations to make films about history.
