  By spotlighting the individual and trying to convey that: “people from the favelas can lead ‘normal’ lives if they take advantage of their opportunities”, this film ignores foundational, structural issues which create these conditions of extreme poverty and violence.
  Not everyone can have a succes story, and this is not caused by a lack of effort or even luck, but rather by institutions that create and sustain these condition.
