Without a thematic through-line, this film is disjointed and detached in its soulless attempt to span an illustrious lifetime and 50 years of music. It simply lacks an emotional core--however Chadwick Boseman exceeds expectations in delivering a fearless committed performance.

Specificity pulsating with nuanced subtlety. Love the late cuts there's magic in those extra beats. Unfortunately this movie is too altogether uneventful for my taste.

Panic 2000
Unfortunately this film's premise did not meet my expectations--although William H. Macy is as provocative as ever. Two ensemble roles were miscast IMHO: Donald Sutherland was interesting as a hit man's father but just didn't add any depth to his role, and Tracy Ullman is flat out flat--disappointingly so in a crucial scene between lying husband and suspecting wife.
I needed to see more at stake for my lead character: more to lose if he murders his psychiatrist (John Ritter) and more budding intimacy with his mistress (Neve Campbell) who delivers the most remarkable performance in the film.
