As a former goth kid this is probably the best depiction of 90s/early 2000s teen angst (along with an amazing soundtrack). Matthew Lillard with blue hair will forever be iconic. I love that every character had their own weird quirks/style and were generally strange, including Steveo’s parents. Even when the main character ranted, the writers still made it witty and funny.

What I loved the most was how well the film illustrated loneliness and how difficult it can be to form social relationships even when you’re surrounded by other people. Dolya is an eclectic, awkward young woman that struggles to make connections outside of her coworkers and neighbors even though she really wants to, as shown by her writing her phone number on a fortune cookie in hopes of connecting with someone.
