This can be stories like Shape of Water, an inherently magic story, told with a sense of whimsy. Or films like Candyman, a magical story by nature but one steeped in tragedy and metaphor.   I am rumor. It is a blessed condition, believe me.

  Candyman is about so many different things. Its about stereotyping and mythology. Its about race and gentrification. Its about domestic violence and sexuality. It'd be understandable for a movie, so ambitious in what it would like to talk about to be rather inept at doing so.

  And yet, Candyman cements itself, not as an ambitious disappointment, but as a triumphant success story that these topics can be discussed, and discussed…
