I hadn't watched this film in years but I was really excited to show it to some friends.
Wow, it blew me away again. As a piece of hard science fiction, I appreciate how long it stays on Earth before the big reveal. In contrast to Interstellar (which didn't particularly work for me), it stays grounded in the larger human struggle to understand our place in the universe over the spectacle of the actual travel.

So wonderful. It made me really excited at how movies like Spiderverse are starting to trickle down through other animated movies. This wasn't as good, of course, but it held itself to what feels like a new standard.
I really really disliked this movie. The whole plot was so heavy-handed and left no room for subtlety. I feel crazy, though, because everyone I know loves it!
Mark Mylod also worked on Shameless and Succession, neither of which I liked, so it might just be his style.
Ralph Fiennes ate though.
