Solid, likeable performances and better than average attention to detail can’t make up for awful stunt casting and a script that plays it safe as well as lacking closure.

Like the best Redd Kross songs, fun and full of energy.

Every one of us who is uncool wants to be seen and acknowledged. Almost Famous is a movie that does that for a lot of us. The combo of music and film nerdiness is a hard to resist siren call. We laugh, we cry and we forgive Cameron Crowe’s occasional sloppiness. The parts he does right are devastatingly right. Of course I’m watching it on a 35mm print on a Thursday night, because I’m uncool!

    Lost Highway

    ★★★★

While Lost Highway presents a typically enigmatic David Lynch story, the dream logic carries the viewer through better than in some of his other films. It displays the assured hand of an experienced filmmaker in the tone, cinematography and editing. It is a dark, pulsating ride, but an entertaining one for anyone with a taste for Lynch’s work.
