20th rewatch, banger. Incredible editing, 2.5 hrs flies by. Nolan and his dialogue, he and Shyamalan are on the same list- it’s serviceable but nobody talks like that. But who cares.

(500) Days of Summer 2009
The movie starts with an overhead shot of Summers hand holding Tom’s while they sit on a park bench- excellent.
Has a distinct style, very light on its feet but devastating when it needs to be.
We’ve all been one of these characters, and some of us have been both, but neither of them deserve criticism for their actions and I think maybe that’s the point. We’re all trying to find that spark, and sometimes it takes mistakes and heartbreak to figure out what that even is.

There’s not a whole lot of narrative momentum here, due mostly to the fact that it’s presented with constant flashback/explanation sequences. And somehow, those sequences present a more interesting group of ideas than the plot of the movie itself. Multiples and a psychotic billionaire murderer on dystopian earth? I want to see THAT movie.
Overall very unique, some great moments of comedy, excellent performance by Pattinson. Standout supporting character: the doctor who is constantly terrified of the repercussions of his actions, only to have a clueless mark ruffalo dismiss them. Very very Bong in its presentation and tone.
